Operando FTIR spectroscopy of heterogeneous catalysts

Specac’s High Temperature High Pressure (HTHP) cell is used to investigate CO2 activation over supported Ni catalysts. The hydrogenation of CO2 to methane has been much studied but insights into the reaction mechanism remain to be uncovered.
 
The Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis group at the University of Utrecht is focused on characterization, performance, and synthesis of inorganic functional materials with special emphasis on well-defined heterogeneous catalysts for energy storage and sustainable physicochemical conversion processes. One of the group’s PhD candidates, Angela Melcherts, will focus on thermocatalytic conversion of CO2 into valuable base chemicals, providing the following study as an example of how the HTHP cell can be used for operando spectroscopy of these processes.
