Opening ceremony | The Science & Innovation Centre

Last week we celebrated our new home, The Science and Innovation Centre, with an official opening ceremony. Partners, customers, friends and family attended the event, which featured tours, demonstrations and awards followed by drinks and nibbles.

Specac's Managing Director, David Smith addressed the crowd alongside Make UK's CEO, Stephen Phipson CBE. Together they untied the ribbon and officially opened the cutting-edge facility for business.

A new standard of manufacturing

Visitors were given a tour of our brand new manufacturing shop floor, to see the bespoke facility used to create world-leading equipment like the Pearl liquid cell and Atlas hydraulic presses.

Thanking our critical suppliers

We also used the opportunity to award our network of critical suppliers for consistently meeting our quality requirements during this period of expansion and high order volume. Awards featured Supplier of the Year, Best New Supplier, Best Recovery of the Year and Most Improved Supplier.

Cutting-edge laboratory facility

The brand new 'Demo Lab' was revealed, giving visitors the chance to explore a high tech analysis setting, used to trial testing methods and analyze samples for customers. Various instruments, from the new Apex XRF Die, Atmos FTIR gas cell, Quest ATR and Pearl liquid cell, were demonstrated.

Seals of Quality award

Arif Butt, CEO and founder of award-winning publisher SelectScience®, presented Specac with the SelectScience® Gold Seal of Quality. The Gold Seal was awarded for the overwhelming number of positive customer reviews attained by our Manual Hydraulic Press. This has only been awarded to seven other companies worldwide.

Future tech

Visitors also had a chance to see the Specac 3D printer in action and try out a prototype of the Specac virtual reality experience, the 'Specac Virtual Lab'.
