Attenuated Total Reflectance
Attenuated Total Reflectance
A reflectance sampling technique, used in such accessories as the Golden Gate and the Benchmark 6 Reflection ATR System. A beam of Infrared radiation is passed through a prism of material which is Infrared transparent, and has a high refractive index, at least higher than the sample being analyzed. Due to internal reflectance, the light reflects off the surface of the crystal at least once, setting up an evanescent wave, which extends into the sample by typically a few microns. The sample must be held in intimate contact with the crystal.

The Golden Gate Systems
The Golden Gate Systems utilise a type IIIa rugged diamond. Available as standard, cold, heated, reaction cell, specular and for super crtical fluids. All top plates are interchangable. Click for here for Golden Gate Capability Brochure or click the picture to go straight to the individual systems.
Silver Gate
Crystals used are either zinc selenide or germanium. Whilst using a similar bridge mechanism to the Golden Gate the beam focusing lenses have been replaced with mirrors. The Silver Gate therfore offers an economical alternative to the Golden Gate for less demanding applications.
Gateway
The Gateway ATR kit is a six reflection horizontal ATR sampling system designed to fit into a wide range of FTIR spectrometers. Samples to be analyzed can be either liquid or solid depending on which top plate assembly is being used.
25 Reflection ATR
The large number of reflections and the availability of different incidence angles make this accessory ideally suited for the enhancement of small bands in weakly absorbing samples.
